Objective: write a 400-word story with the following three words: wax, starfruit, kidney.
Today’s blog post takes a slight detour from schedule: I’ve decided to compete in a Flash Fiction competition and thought I would blog about it. It’s not a major competition or anything. The competition is hosted by an author, Karina Kantas, who I made acquaintance with on social media.
Here are the instructions from her “Pushing the Refresh Button” Facebook page.
Two groups Author/ Reader ( If you are both, you will be in the author group.)
This is your challenge should you accept it.
From the words you have given, three words have randomly been selected.
Now Heads and Tales is a collection of flash fiction. So it’s your turn to have a go at writing flash fiction.
It can be of any genre. You have until the 22nd (No longer) to write a flash fiction using the chosen words.
The flash should be no longer than 400 words.
Readers, this is your chance to allow your imagination free reign and grab that pen and pad and become a writer smile emoticon:)
Two will be chosen from the submitted flash and posted here on the 24th June for the public will vote for their favourite in a blind judging contest. (The name of the writer will not be shown. )
There will be one winner and the prize is Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
THE WORDS YOU HAVE TO USE IN YOUR FLASH FICTION ARE.
I hope your are feeling creative. All entries to be sent to me for judging. Good luck and have fun!
You retain copyright. Facebook has nothing to do with this contest.”
If you are unfamiliar with Flash Fiction, you can watch Karina’s YouTube video on the topic. In summary, Flash Fiction typically ranges from 100 to 500 words and is a full story in that it has a beginning, a middle, and an end.
That’s it for today! I’ve got to finalize my submission which I will share on my blog over the next few days.
I already have written most of my piece and I’m curious what you could come up with based on the 3 words. Feel free to share your idea, outline, and/or full submission on here 🙂
