Quick update on my novella, the ProtoHack competition, and my first startup!

Hi All,

I thought I would give you a quick update on my novella (“2030 ET: Tribulation”), ProtoHack Vancouver (a “hackathon” I have entered in), and my first in-progress tech startup. It is, as ever, your support that keeps me going. Thanks again for the words of encouragement and your belief in me.

New Fitness Challenge: Grouse Grind

I thought I would kick-start my blog, post my Summer hiatus, with another fitness challenge. Tomorrow, I take on the infamous “Grouse Grind” for the first time.

For those who do not know what the “Grouse Grind” is, it is a 2.9 kilometres climb up the side of Grouse Mountain, which lies on the North Shore of Vancouver. Obviously, the distance isn’t the challenge. It is the elevation gain: 853 metres (2,800 feet), which are “gained” step-by-step over 2,830 stairs!

To put this into perspective, the “Grouse Grind” is comparable to climbing the Burj Khalifa, the World’s tallest structure, which has 2,909 steps from Ground floor to Level 160 and is 829.8 metres tall.

Beyond the “Race to 40!”: what next?

My Race to 40! challenge will be over tomorrow when I turn 40. I can’t believe that I’ve already lived half a life! There is still so much left to do. The goals that I set myself as part of the Race to 40! challenge are just the beginning. I have big plans for the second half of the year and the next few years. The next big goal on my plate will be taking the entrepreneurial plunge and launching a startup. But first, a vacation with family 🙂

Race to 40! Progress Update Week 4 (FINAL UPDATE)

Only 2 ½ days left to complete my Race to 40! challenge. This will be the final progress update before my 40th birthday this Sunday, the 26th of June. The goal to blog everyday will likely be met while whether I complete the half-marathon in the target time or not may be impacted by a few niggles. With regards to completing my novella, it looks like I will get the writing done in time but not the editing. I will still be chuffed at this accomplishment even if it take a little bit longer to edit the manuscript. At the end of the day, I would rather take the time to polish and fine tune the manuscript till I am proud to publish it rather than publish a half done work for the sake of an arbitrary deadline!

Flash Fiction Experiment

Objective: write a 400-word story with the following three words: wax, starfruit, kidney.

Today’s blog post takes a slight detour from schedule: I’ve decided to compete in a Flash Fiction competition and thought I would blog about it. It’s not a major competition or anything. The competition is hosted by an author, Karina Kantas, who I made acquaintance with on social media.

Yet Another Concept Art Sketch for my 2030 ET Novella

In today’s blog post I reveal a sketch that I commissioned from a talented artist living here in Vancouver for my novella ”2030 ET: Tribulation”.

Special Promotion: Those who subscribe to my blog newsletter will receive a minimum of 3 pieces of the final color concept art from me (and possibly up to 5) once I self-publish my novella (expected around June 30th). The concept art otherwise would only be made available to those who purchase my novella or participate in other limited promotions. If you are into sci-fi, this is a great opportunity to get some amazing high resolution art that you can use for inspiration, use as wallpaper, or simply just stare at to absorb the detail.

Also, there is a surprise at the end of this post that you do not want to miss!
